Ah! Another brilliant day on Elf Island! The sun is shining like always, and the Thanksgiving decorations can be found everywhere, brightening smiles and bringing holiday spirit. Autumn is my favorite time of year! My birthday was not long ago, and just yesterday many Islanders who were also VMK members celebrated Mickey Mouse’s 80th birthday. Some other holidays this month include Children’s Day in India, and Women’s Day in Denmark (oh I wish they had that in America too ;) ) Most importantly, this month Elf Island opened up to it’s first few members, and is now going to open for the public!

(see bottom of article to find links to all the current boats)

This coming Friday – November 21, 2008 – Elf Island will go into it’s Public Beta phase! From now until then, no one will be able to register. Don’t worry! It’s only a short while until you can go in the moment you join! When the Public Beta is launched, you can join just like any other game, and play straight away.

For those who pre-registered but have not yet been placed on a boat, you have no need to worry either. Your place will still be there when the site opens to the public, you’ll just miss the closed beta. It’s not the biggest thing in the world, so don’t feel left out!

As a side note to that, if you are placed on a boat you DO NOT have to sign up that day. Your place is open at all times and you can join at any point following. You will still be able to join when the Public Beta opens as well.

Has any one noticed that the logo on the main page (www.elfisland.com) has slightly changed? I wonder if they’re going to change some other art work as well.

Some new Island features include: (from the Elf Island blog)

-Fixed the problem with items disappearing in the homes

-Made the avatars invisible when they enter a mini-game or a store

-Labeled the “Map”

-Chat/UI Lag - we’ve made major strides and will continue to improve the experience

-We also addressed an issue where players were sometimes not able to see other players’ names

Some things that will happen soon: (also from the blog)

- The Field Guide (as the week progresses you will see improvements with usability)
- Chat Logs: We are adding a chat log, so that players can read the chat in the room without seeing the bubbles overlap (or we will find a way to keep bubbles from overlapping)

- Mini-game widget: It will be easy to find, so exiting a game will be intuitive

– Fix layering issues with goods and the “edit home” button, so that an elf cannot walk through them

- Alphabetize the friend’s list

- Our first GoodQuest: House building!

- More micro games

- More animated items to purchase

- More elf outfit selections

- Full access to the Field Guide

- Improved chat options and elf mobility

- Buying, trading or gifting items with other elves

- Achievement and status

- Our weekly multimedia newsletter – The Tide

- Tribes – Coming soon!

In terms of features, this week you should expect to see: (also from the blog..)
- The pie shooter micro-game
- New items/goods
- Improved Elf mobility
- Improved customization process

We’re all looking forward to a marvelous week!

- -BLOG NEWS- -

I’ve added a list of Moderators to the Dictionary, and modified a couple of definitions. I’m beginning to work on the Games and Places sections as well.

My site adoptables will be posted soon. Check back often to see if I’ve gotten them up yet. ;)

Work has begun on a new… oops, wait, it’s a secret. ^_^”

As always, have fun around the Island! :D

If you are on one of these boats, and have not yet signed up, click here to do so. Use the user name form the boat list and the pass word you used to pre-register to complete the registration. Once you are done, check your email (on the email account you provided for Elf Island) to see if you have received your activation letter. Be sure to check your junk and spam folders as well. Click on the activation link (the long, random one) to fully register your account. Once you are done registering, you can click here to sign in! When you sign in for the first time, you are able to watch the movie clip introducing the island and it’s history. If you want to read more of it or review what you saw and heard in the movie, then click on the book at the top of the play screen. This will open your Field Guide. According to most, the Field Guide is not yet complete.
